Heterocentron elegans, commonly known as Spanish Shawl, is a vibrant, mat-forming evergreen perennial frequently used in New Zealand gardens for its dense, colourful ground cover.
Growth Habit: A prostrate plant that grows very low (approx. 5–20 cm) and spreads indefinitely by rooting at the nodes, creating a carpet-like effect.
A profusion of bright magenta or purple-pink flowers typically from summer through to autumn.
 Best suited to warmer, frost-free regions . It is tender and requires protection from hard frosts.
